Lacquernaut is run by MultiMind Studio. "We" on this page means the people who run it. This page says what we keep, who else handles it, and how to take it back.
What we keep
- Your account. Your email address, a password if you set one, when you sign in, and a name to show others if you choose one.
- Your collection. The polishes on your shelf, what you paid for them and where, the manis you log with their notes, your photos, and what you make in the Workshop.
- Emails you forward. When you forward an order email to your Lacquernaut address, we keep the whole email as it arrived and read your purchases out of it.
- The Waitlist. The address you leave, whether you asked on the website or in the iPhone app, and when.
- A scrambled form of your IP address, so that one computer cannot flood the Waitlist. We keep it for about 24 hours. It is cleared the next time anyone asks to join after that, so on a quiet day it can stay a little longer.
Photos lose their location and camera details when you upload them. We keep the picture and nothing hidden inside it.
Who sees it
Your collection is yours alone unless you share part of it.
- A mani you share can be opened by members who have its link, or by every member if you share it with everyone. Its photos and its note go with it. If you stop sharing it, a member who saved its link still sees the polishes it used and its comments, but no longer its photos or its note.
- Comments you leave are seen by whoever can open that mani. Upvotes show as a count, never a name.
- A photo you contribute to a polish is shown, with your name if you chose one, to members who have that polish.
- Nothing of yours is open to the web at large. The drawn pictures of polish are public, because they show polish and nothing of you.
- Lacquernaut can reach the stored data to keep the site running. When you ask for a polish we do not have yet, our daily list of requests names the polish and you.
Who else handles it
We do not sell your data, and there are no ads. These services do the work.
- Supabase stores the database and your photos, and runs sign-in. Its logs record your IP address when you sign in.
- Vercel hosts the site. Its logs record which pages were asked for and from what address.
- Anthropic's Claude reads each email you forward, sent through Vercel's AI Gateway, to find the purchases in it. Claude also researches a polish you ask us to add, from its name, on Lacquernaut's account.
- Resend sends your sign-in emails and receives the emails you forward.
- PostHog counts page visits and records errors, with no cookies and no profile of you. It never receives your email address.
- Telegram brings Lacquernaut a note, with your email address, when you join the Waitlist and when you first sign in. Our daily list of polish requests comes the same way.
- Backblaze B2, and a computer Lacquernaut owns, hold the nightly backup of the database and the photos. That computer keeps each night's copy, and anything removed, for 30 days; Backblaze keeps what was removed for 30 days more.
- Better Stack checks that the site is up. It sees no member data.
Cookies
We set cookies only to keep you signed in, plus one that lasts ten minutes and remembers a shared link you were opening when you signed in. No cookie tracks you, so there is no banner to click. Your browser also keeps a mani you have not saved yet, and a few view settings, on your device alone.
Taking it back
- Export. Under Account, "Export your collection" gives you your collection, your manis, your comments and your photos as one zip. It leaves out upvotes, sharing settings, saved links and the raw copies of emails you forwarded. A very large collection may not fit every photo in one zip: its README says how many were left out, and each can still be saved on its own by opening it.
- Delete. "Delete my account", at the foot of Account, removes your account and everything in it, photos included. A polish you asked us to add goes with you if it is still yours alone. Once it has joined the catalog for everyone, it stays there with nothing that ties it to you.
- What a delete does not reach yet. Your Waitlist entry and the raw copies of emails you forwarded stay after a delete. Write to Lacquernaut and we remove them by hand. The backups let go of the rest within about 60 days.
